Crews Wrap the Ostrander Ski Hut as Dome Fire Flares Southeast

6,736 acres and 40 percent contained. The biggest jump in fire behavior Saturday was on the southeast side.

Firefighters are putting structure protection around the Ostrander ski hut, including wrapping the building, the Park Service said this morning. The hut sits at Ostrander Lake, inside the area that has been closed for the fire.

The fire grew about 100 acres Saturday to 6,736 acres. Containment holds at 40 percent, with 811 people assigned. Activity picked up with temperatures well above normal and dry air. Crews and aircraft held the spot fires in the northeast. The most significant increase in fire behavior came in the southeast, where both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters were brought in.

Today crews are building more handline on the east side and still working the spot fires from earlier in the week. In the north and south, where lines are holding, the work is patrol and mop-up. On the west side crews continue building line directly on the fire's edge.

The forecast stays warm and dry: partly cloudy Sunday, then mostly sunny Monday and Tuesday, with highs mostly in the 70s and afternoon humidity rising slightly into the 20 to 30 percent range.

Closures are unchanged. Glacier Point Road is closed, and the Four Mile and Panorama trails to Glacier Point are open. The Chilnualna Falls trail, the trails beyond it toward Buena Vista and Crescent Lakes, and the Ostrander Lake Trail and everything south of it are closed, along with the Mono Meadow and Buena Vista trails under the closure order posted on InciWeb.
