Hotshot Crews Ordered as Dome Fire Spot Fires Push Past 6,600 Acres

The fire grew about 470 acres Friday. Containment holds at 40 percent, and the weekend stays hot and dry.

The Dome Fire is 6,632 acres and 40 percent contained this morning, the Park Service says, about 470 acres larger than Friday's 6,159. There are 765 people assigned, and more interagency hotshot crews have been ordered and are arriving.

The growth came from the northeast, where several spot fires started Thursday afternoon in wind and low humidity. That corner is now the top priority. Crews held the furthest spot fire to limited growth on Friday with help from aircraft, and the arriving hotshot crews are there to contain the rest.

Elsewhere the fire is quieter. Today crews are reinforcing containment lines on the south end and working the fire's edge from south to north on the east and west flanks. They have made good progress in the north and will work the western flank from north to south.

The weekend will not help. Saturday is sunny with highs in the 70s, well above normal, and humidity dropping into the teens. Light morning winds turn southwest at 5 to 8 mph with gusts around 15.

On closures, the two federal sources do not match. The closure order posted with the incident on InciWeb now includes the Mono Meadow and Buena Vista trails; the park's daily update still lists only Glacier Point Road, the Chilnualna Falls trail and the trails beyond it toward Buena Vista and Crescent Lakes, and the Ostrander Lake Trail and everything south of it. Treat the Mono Meadow and Buena Vista trails as closed. The Four Mile and Panorama trails to Glacier Point remain open.

Lower Eagle Creek Closed to Angling to Protect Coho

Oregon has shut the lowest reach of the Clackamas tributary for the third fall running. Its own pages disagree on when it reopens.

Angling is closed on the lowest reach of Eagle Creek in Oregon's Clackamas basin, from the mouth upstream to the SE Dowty Road Bridge, as of October 2. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife closes this stretch when low water traps coho salmon in the lower creek, where they are easy targets for snagging.

The department's own pages give two end dates. Its formal regulation updates page lists the closure as effective October 2 through October 31. Its Willamette Zone fishing report says October 2 through December 31, and local reporting carries the December date. Until the department settles it, assume the creek stays closed past October 31 and check the regulation updates page before fishing it in November.

This is the third fall in a row for the closure. In 2024 and 2025 the department closed the same reach from September 27 through October 31 for the same reason: early rain drew coho out of the Clackamas into Eagle Creek, flows dropped, and the fish stayed bunched up. Both years it cited illegal snagging that drew daily calls to Oregon State Police and many citations. Coho here are listed as threatened under both state and federal endangered species law.

The Clackamas River itself is not affected. Poaching can be reported to the Turn In Poachers line at 800-452-7888, or *OSP from a mobile phone.

Raptor Rally Closes Parts of Standard Wash OHV Area October 14–17

The BLM will close the racecourse and restrict the rest of the open area near Lake Havasu City for the event.

Riders planning a mid-October trip to the Standard Wash OHV Area near Lake Havasu City should plan around the 2026 Raptor Rally 003. The Bureau of Land Management's Lake Havasu Field Office will temporarily close and restrict selected public land in the open area from 11:59 p.m. October 14 through 11:59 p.m. October 17, the agency announced October 1.

Land in and around the event will be closed, restricted, or set aside as spectator areas. The BLM will mark closed and restricted areas at key access points with signs, fencing or barriers. In past race closures at Standard Wash, the racecourse itself was closed to public entry and the rest of the open area was placed under restrictions, but the boundaries are set event by event, so check this year's map rather than last year's.

The closure map is attached to the BLM announcement and copies are at the Lake Havasu Field Office, 1785 Kiowa Ave. The field office is at 928-505-1200.
